After a five-year-long hiatus, Organic farmers in Manitoba now have their own extension agronomist thanks to a partnership between the Manitoba Organic Alliance, the University of Manitoba and the provincial and federal governments.
Katherine Stanley will be improving organic extension capacity in the province by offering educational opportunities and one-on-one support, a Manitoba Organic Alliance release says.
She will be reaching out to farmers through the February 2017 Prairie Organic Think Whole Farm Conference, regional Farm Clubs, farm tours, extension, and continued research with the University of Manitoba
Stanley achieved her Masters of Science in Plant Science, University of Saskatchewan where she focused on mechanical weed control in organic pulse crops. Prior to that she completed a Bachelor of Science in agroecology at the University of Manitoba. Stanley has worked over the past two years at the University of Manitoba Natural Systems Agriculture Program.
